Television Hits

Highlights

There was an uptick in coverage this past month due to our Constitution Week, which tied in with the upcoming election, but the breakout stories were Georgia College’s first patent and the development of a new theory of sound and of a professor’s unique approach to southern history through food. Each of these stories has seen multiple news and television hits. Both the Constitution Week coverage and these stories are highlighted above the break.

Social Media:

September’s social media saw a pretty steady audience growth and popularity among posts that involved rankings and university successes.

Facebook fans: 13,080 (2.3% growth)
Similar to last month, the most popular Facebook post was a video (“What does liberal arts mean to you?” video). This proves that videos, particularly ones that include student interviews/student life are more likely to be shared and, by that, will have a broader reach. As of today, that video has 15,000+ views.

Instagram followers: 5,862 (3.4% growth)
Instagram saw the most growth in followership this month. The top posts were the FTKolor run, Best College Rankings, and “Happy First Day of Fall.” From that, I can determine that our audience favors posts about student life (in this case, one that involves outreach and community service), success (high rankings) and campus beauty-related graphics. These types of post connect our audience and spark pride in Georgia College—almost like a “this is who we are” approach.

Twitter followers: 8,168 (1.1% growth)
Twitter saw the slightest amount of growth and is in the most need of an audience increase. Just like with Instagram, the top posts involved the three images listed above, plus the Connor King paraclimbing story and a 9/11 tribute. This month I am going to do some research as to how to gain more of a Twitter following and expand our reach.
