Social Media:

August 2016 was a major growth month for Georgia College social media. The major highlights included “viral” videos and day-of coverage of major events such as move-in day and the first day of class. Due to more frequent postings and a strategic use of Front Page stories and campus events included on all social media platforms, our followship has been increasing at a steady rate. The current statistics for follows are:

Total Subscribers – Twitter 8,078
Total Subscribers – Instagram 5,669
Total Subscribers – Facebook 12,780
Total Subscribers – YouTube 27

The most popular posting for this month was a video on the Coke “Hug Me” machine, which was a fun and simple package that the community really seemed to enjoy. At the end of August, that video reached 97,000 views, 1,178 shares, and 1,600 likes. This proves that videos are crucial in reaching our social media audience. It also can be derived that video segments that are humorous and campus-life oriented will be the most successful. It is a major goal to continue to produce video segments that display “who we are” in a genuine, light-hearted and occasionally funny way.

Another highlight from the month of August was the Teacher.org story that was pushed out through all social media platforms as well as the GC homepage. Due to the variety of media, the original story generated over 4,000 views on Front Page in just two days—a significant stride ahead of most stories that are posted only to Front Page. This proves that we are heading in the right direction by utilizing social media as a convenient and effective way to tell the Georgia College story.
